From the Phenomenology of Music to the Critique of Technology: Remarks on the Early Music Philosophy of Günther Anders – Central concepts and ideas in Anders’s early music philosophy were part of the music-phenomenological discourse. There are considerable differences between some of these conceptions in their respective elaborations. They were formed by personality and different lines of argumentation and justification. Although Anders was familiar with contemporary music-phenomenological studies, he quotes them only rarely. At the same time, he invokes terms and concepts from the history of philosophy to a degree that is atypical of musical phenomenology, especially Kant and Hegel, but also Augustine, Aristotle, Schopenhauer and Nietzsche. Comparison with contemporary conceptions shows that one must credit Anders with intellectual originality within the music-phenomenological movement. In addition, the early music philosophy transpires as constitutive of Anders’s later critique of technology.
