Revolution – Transition – Autonomy. Three new philosophies of music – Three new philosophies of music raise the question of the increasing interest in music within German-speaking philosophy. Harry Lehmann’s Die digitale Revolution der Musik represents a technological utopia, Christian Grüny’s Kunst des Übergangs investigates the margins and boundaries of music in terms of a phenomenology of music, and Gunnar Hindrichs’s Die Autonomie des Klangs suggests a strict ontology of the modern musical work of art. Regardless of the huge differences in methods and attitude, all three authors – and perhaps all representatives of the new German philosophy of music – seem to react to great uncertainties and the need for orientation within current musical discourse.
