Der Autor geht dem komplexen Verhältnis von gesundem und pathologischem Narzißmus nach. Letzteren interpretiert er als Folge einer Traumatisierung in der präobjektalen Ichentwicklung, die mit einer primitiven Abwehrorganisation einhergeht (projektive Identifizierung, Spaltung, manische Verleugnung, Omnipotenz, Idealisierung und Entwertung). Daraus folgt eine Verschmelzungssehnsucht mit einem idealisierten primären Objekt, die mit der Angst vor Selbstverlust und der Abwehr dieser Angst einhergeht. Die Eigendynamik dieser pathologischen Abwehrorganisation bringt es mit sich, daß der Versuch der Rettung des Selbst zur Schwächung und letztlich Zerstörung des Selbst führt, deshalb spricht der Autor vom »Verrat am Selbst«. Zahlreiche eingestreute Fallvignetten exemplifizieren diese Form narzißtischer Organisation.

Betrayal of the self. The violence of narcissistic defense
The author investigates the complex relationship between healthy and pathological narcissism, interpreting the latter as the consequence of traumatization in the pre-objectal development of the ego, hand in hand with a primitive organization of the defense system (projective identification, splitting, manic denial, omnipotence, idealization, devaluation). This leads to a longing for fusion with an idealized primary object, associated with fear of self-loss and the fending off of that fear. The specific dynamic of this pathological organization of the defense system creates a situation where the attempt to rescue the self leads to the weakening and ultimately to the destruction of the self – hence the author's reference to »betrayal of the self«. Various case vignettes illustrate this form of narcissistic organization.

Le Soi trahi – sur la violence de la défense narcissique
L'auteur analyse le rapport complexe entre le narcissisme sain et le narcissisme pathologique. Ce dernier est interprété comme la conséquence d'un traumatisme subi pendant le développement du Moi pré-objectal, et qui s'accompagne d'une organisation de défense primitive (identification projective, clivage, déni maniaque, toute-puissance, idéalisation et dévalorisation). Il en résulte le désir de fusion avec un objet primaire idéalisé, accompagné de l'angoisse de la perte du Soi et de la défense contre cette angoisse. Le dynamisme propre de cette organisation pathologique de défense conduit finalement à ceci que la tentative de sauver le Soi affaiblit celui-ci et finit par le détruire. C'est la raison pour laquelle l'auteur parle du »Soi trahi«. De nombreux exemples de cas, présentés au cours du texte, illustrent cette forme d'organisation narcissique.

Erkenntnis (das Verstehen von Welt) findet in einem fortlaufend dialektischen Prozeß der Paarung zwischen Innen und Außen, Mythos und Logos, Erfahrung und Wissen statt. Kreativität bringt in einem schöpferischen Akt ein Neues, Drittes hervor, wenn zwei Verschiedene (Geschlechter, Gedanken, Dinge und Worte etc.) sich zusammentun und sich bereichernd ergänzen. Die Konzeption eines Kindes führt zu seiner Einnistung im mütterlichen Körper, in dem das Baby heranwächst, bis die Ent-Bindung die Trennung der körperlichen Systeme mit sich bringt. Die Hauptthese der Autorin lautet, daß die psychische Trennung vom Körper der Mutter (Ödipuskomplex und Anerkennung des väterlichen Rivalen) eine lebenslange Aufgabe in der psychischen Entwicklung eines jeden Menschen darstellt. Der Verzicht auf konkrete Befriedigung setzt Symbolisierungsprozesse in Gang, die zu »Vergeistigung« oder »Mentalisierung« führen. Erfahrungen werden mit symbolischer Bedeutung ausgestattet und so geistig/psychisch repräsentierbar gemacht. Welche Rolle die Sprache, das Haupt-Symbolsystem unserer Kommunikation, dabei spielt, will diese Arbeit aufzeigen.

Nets and vessels for the recovery of absence and loss. Thoughts on the role of language in the framework of a psychoanalytic theory of symbolization
The achievement of knowledge (understanding the world) takes place in an ongoing dialectic process coupling inside and outside, myth and logos, experience and existing knowledge. Creativity (the creative act) brings forth a new, third element when two different entities (sexes, thoughts, things and words, etc.) combine and complement one another in an enriching way. The conception of a child leads to its being lodged in the mother's body, where it grows until the severance of the umbilical cord brings the ultimate separation of the two physical systems. The author's main contention is that the physical separation of mother and child (Oedipus complex and recognition of the father as rival) is a lifelong challenge for the psychic development of every individual. The renunciation of concrete gratification sets off symbolization processes that lead to »spiritualization« or »mentalization«. Experiences are invested with symbolic meaning and thus made susceptible of representation on the psychic/mental/intellectual plane. The article sets out to define the role played in this process by the central symbolic system in human communication – language.

La connaissance (la compréhension du monde) se fait par un processus dialectique continu d'accouplement de l'intérieur avec l'extérieur, du mythe avec le logos, de l'expérience avec le savoir. Dans un acte créateur, la créativité produit quelque chose de nouveau, une tierce chose, lorsque deux choses différentes (sexes, idées, objets et mots etc.) se réunissent et se complètent de façon enrichissante. La conception d'un enfant a pour conséquence que celui-ci se niche dans le corps maternel où le bébé se développe jusque à ce que l'accouchement provoque la séparation des systèmes corporels. La thèse principale de l'auteur est que la séparation physique du corps de la mère (complexe d'OEdipe et reconnaissance du rival paternel) constitue une tâche perpétuelle au cours du développement psychique de chaque homme. Le renoncement à la satisfaction concrète déclenche des processus de symbolisation qui conduisent à une »intellectualisation« ou à une »mentalisation«. L'auteur donne une signification symbolique aux expériences en les rendant ainsi représentables intellectuellement et psychiquement. Le présent travail cherche à démontrer le rôle qu'y joue le langage, système principal de symboles de notre communication.

Zu Beginn skizziert der Autor, ausgehend von Freud, die Entwicklung der analytischen Technik, wobei er drei aufeinanderfolgende Phasen mit unterschiedlicher Akzentuierung von Objektivität, Subjektivität und Intersubjektivität hervorhebt. Er führt danach den Nachweis, daß diese Rekonstruktion der Komplexität und der notwendigen je unterschiedlichen Interaktion zwischen den drei Momenten nicht gerecht wird. Anschließend diskutiert er die Kontroverse um den Begriff der analytischen Neutralität und befürwortet ihren klinischen Nutzen. Schließlich erläutert er, daß der psychische Zustand des Analytikers im Setting zwischen Momenten mehr oder weniger ausgeprägter Objektivität und Subjektivität schwankt, was ihm ermöglicht, unter Rückgriff auf eine spezifische mögliche Neutralität seine analytische Funktion auszuüben.

Between objectivity, subjectivity and intersubjectivity: is there still place for analytic neutrality?
The author initially presents an overview of the evolution of the analytic technique, emphasizing three different moments. He then challenges his proposition, considering that it is not sufficient to acknowledge the complexity and the unavoidable interactions among objectivity, subjectivity and intersubjectivity. Next, he discusses the current controversy on analytic neutrality, which he considers a useful concept. Finally, he suggests that the mental state of the analyst in the setting shifts between moment of greater or lesser objectivity and subjectivity, which allow him/her to perform the analytic function taking advantage of certain possible neutrality.

Entre l'objectivité, la subjectivité et l'intersubjectivité, reste-t-il encore de la place pour la neutralité analytique?
Au début de son article, l'auteur retrace à partir de Freud le développement de la technique analytique en dégageant trois phases successives dans lesquelles l'accent mis sur l'objectivité, la subjectivité et l'intersubjectivité varie à chaque fois. Il démontre ensuite que cette reconstruction ne parvient pas à rendre justice à la complexité et à l'interaction nécessaire, à chaque fois différente, entre l'objectivité, la subjectivité et l'intersubjectivité. Après cela, il discute la controverse sur le concept de neutralité analytique et affirme son utilité clinique. Il conclut finalement son article en expliquant que l'état psychique de l'analyste dans le setting oscille entre des instants d'objectivité et de subjectivité plus ou moins grands, ce qui lui permet d'exercer sa fonction analytique par le recours à une certaine neutralité possible.
