Liebesäußerungen von Analysanden gegenüber ihrem Analytiker werden in der einschlägigen Literatur in der Regel als Ausdruck eines Widerstands gegen analytisches Verstehen und Durcharbeiten betrachtet. Viele analytische Autoren haben sich mit dem Thema der Liebe unter diesem Gesichtspunkt beschäftigt. Der Autor veranschaulicht anhand von eigenen Beispielen bedeutsame Veränderungen in seinem Umgang mit Liebesäußerungen in der analytischen Stunde. Er diskutiert verschiedene Gründe, warum es so schwierig zu sein scheint, mit Liebesäußerungen von Patienten – und den Liebesgefühlen als Analytiker – angemessen umzugehen.

On the difficulty of talking about love
Normally, analysands’ declarations of love for their analysts are regarded in the relevant literature as the expression of a resistance to analytic understanding and working-through. Many analytic authors have engaged with the subject of love from this perspective. With reference to examples from his own experience, the author indicates a number of significant changes in the way he deals with protestations of love in the analytic session. He discusses various reasons why it appears to be so difficult to find an appropriate way of coming to terms both with declarations of love from patients and with feelings of love as an analyst.

De la difficulté de parler d’amour
Pour la littérature correspondante, les déclarations d’amour d’analysants vis à vis de leur analyste sont en général considérées comme expression d’une résistance contre la compréhension et l’élaboration analytique. De nombreux auteurs analytiques se sont penchés sur le thème de l’amour pris sous cet angle. L’auteur illustre à l’aide d’exemples des changements importants sur sa manière de composer avec des déclarations d’amour dans le cadre psychanalytique. Il examine plusieurs raisons pour lesquelles il semble si difficile de traiter de manière appropriée des déclarations d’amour de patients – ainsi que les sentiments d’amour de l’analyste.

Die deutschsprachige Psychoanalyse wurde stark von Abraham geprägt, sodass es angebracht ist, seinen Beitrag zur Entwicklung unseres analytischen Denkens und Handelns zu untersuchen. Im Folgenden wird die frühe Geschichte des Konzepts der Analerotik, beginnend mit der ersten Auflage von Freuds Drei Abhandlungen zur Sexualtheorie (1905) bis zu Abrahams Versuch einer Entwicklungsgeschichte der Libido (1924), rekonstruiert. Das Interesse gilt insbesondere Beiträgen, die eine Affinität zum Ansatz von Abraham aufweisen. Das ist der Fall bei Publikationen von Jones, Stärcke und Ophuijsen. Sie haben zusammen mit Abraham die Arbeit am Konzept der Analerotik vorangetrieben, nachdem Freud 1916 aufgehört hatte, über dieses Thema zu publizieren. Die wichtigsten Modifikationen, die sie vornahmen, zeichnen sich dadurch aus, dass sie dazu tendierten, (1) das Primat des Sexuellen aufzugeben und den Stellenwert der Destruktivität zu erhöhen, (2) Autoerotik und Narzissmus durch Sadismus zu ersetzen und (3) nichttriebhafte Faktoren, unter ihnen das Ich, außer Acht zu lassen. Außerdem wurden die Partialtriebe, die bei Freud den ödipal/genitalen Regungen nachgeordnet waren, zu Motivkräften mit eigenen Zielen erklärt.

On the early history of anal eroticism
German psychoanalysis was greatly influenced by Abraham, so it is more than appropriate to take a closer look at his contribution to the evolution of our analytic thinking and action. The article reconstructs the early history of the term »anal eroticism,« beginning with the first edition of Freud’s Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905) and ending with Abraham’s Study of the Developmental History of the Libido (1924). It focuses mainly on those works and articles that display an affinity to Abraham’s approach, as is the case with Jones, Stärcke, and Ophuijsen. With Abraham, they advanced the engagement with the concept of anal eroticism after Freud had ceased to publish anything on this topic in 1916. Their most important modifications shared a tendency to (1) relinquish the primacy of the sexual and emphasize the significance of destructiveness, (2) substitute sadism for autoeroticism and narcissism, and (3) neglect non-instinctual factors like the ego. In addition, they declared the partial drives subordinated by Freud to oedipal/genital instincts to be motivic forces with aims of their own.

À propos des débuts de l’histoire de l’érotisme anal
La psychanalyse germanophone a été si profondément marquée par Abraham qu’il convient d’examiner sa contribution au développement de notre pensée et notre pratique psychanalytique. Ce texte retrace l’histoire du concept de l’érotisme anal, tel qu’elle commence avec la première édition des Trois essais sur la théorie sexuelle de Freud en 1905 jusqu’à la tentative d’Abraham d’élaborer une histoire du développement de la libido en 1924. Ausgehend von einem Brief, den Paula Heimann im Februar 1933 kurz vor ihrer Emigration von Berlin nach London an ihren in Wien weilenden Lehranalytiker Theodor Reik schrieb, vertritt der Autor die These, dass Heimann viele Jahre später mit ihrer innovativen Arbeit zur Gegenübertragung wieder an ihre Berliner Zeit mit Reik und an dessen Interesse für die tieferen Ebenen der Kommunikation zwischen Analytiker und Analysand anschloss. Indem sie eine tragfähige innere Verbindung zu ihm hatte bewahren können, nahm sie nach Jahren absoluter Gefolgschaft zu Melanie Klein beginnend mit dieser Arbeit einen zunehmend unabhängigen eigenen Standpunkt ein.

Paula Heimann and the redefinition of countertransference as source of comprehension
The article refers to a letter written by Paula Heimann in February 1933 shortly before her emigration from Berlin to London and addressed to her training analyst Theodor Reik in Vienna. The author contends that with her innovative study on countertransference many years later, she was harking back to her Berlin period with Reik and his interest in the deeper levels of communication between analyst and analysand. After years of undivided loyalty to Melanie Klein, the study marks the beginning of an increasingly independent stance that Heimann was able to adopt owing to her resilient inner links with her former teacher.
