Die Autorin geht der Frage nach, warum die weibliche Brust, »eine der wichtigsten erogenen Zonen der Frau«, nicht als sexuelles Organ gesehen und entsprechend benannt wird – obwohl die Erregung der Brust zweifellos zum weiblichen Orgasmus einen wesentlichen Beitrag leistet. Sie vermutet, daß die »Dreifaltigkeit« der körperlichen Lustquellen der Frau – die Vagina, die Klitoris, die Brust – nicht anerkannt werden darf, weil damit der Brust die Bedeutung eines sexuellen Organs zugestanden würde, die der Brust als einem Ort, der dem Überleben und der Ernährung des Babys dient, niemals zugestanden werden darf. Fallvignetten exemplifizieren die mit der doppelten Bedeutung der Brust – Welt der Mutterliebe und Welt der sexuellen Lust – für beide Geschlechter einhergehenden innerpsychischen Konflikte, Phantasien und fundamentalen Irritationen.

The sexual breast. A contribution to the psychoanalytic understanding of female sexuality
The author inquires into the reasons why the female breast, »one of the most important erogenous zones for women«, is not regarded – and accordingly not referred to – as a sexual organ, despite the fact that arousal of the breast is an essential factor in female orgasm. The answer she proposes is that the »trinity« of sources of physical pleasure for women – vagina, clitoris, breast – cannot be acknowledged as such because this would involve conceding to the breast the significance of a sexual organ. This is ruled out by the fact that the breast is a part of the body that is seen primarily as assuring the survival and nutrition of babies. Case vignettes indicate the intrapsychic conflicts, fantasies and far-reaching uncertainties involved for both sexes in the dual significance of the breast: the world of motherly love, on the one hand, and of sexual pleasure on the other.

L'article poursuit la question de savoir pourquoi le sein féminin, »l'une des zones érogènes les plus importantes de la femme«, n'est pas considéré comme un organe sexuel et n'est pas désigné comme tel – bien que l'excitation du sein contribue sans aucune doute largement à l'orgasme féminin. L'auteur suppose que la »trinité« des sources du plaisir physique de la femme – le vagin, le clitoris, le sein – ne doit pas être reconnue parce que, ce faisant, on accorderait au sein la signification d'un organe sexuel, une signification qu'il ne faut jamais accorder au sein en tant que lieu servant à la survie et à l'alimentation du bébé. Des exemples de cas illustrent les conflits intra-psychiques, les fantasmes et les irritations fondamentales que la double signification du sein – l'univers de l'amour maternel et l'univers du plaisir sexuel – engendre chez les deux sexes.

Im Mittelpunkt der psychoanalytischen Theorien zur Weiblichkeit der 70er bis 90er Jahre stand vor allem die Mutter-Tochter-Beziehung; der sexuell erotische Gehalt der Vater-Tochter-Beziehung kam, abgesehen von dem Extremfall des sexuellen Mißbrauchs, kaum zur Sprache. Diese Lücke will die Autorin beginnen zu füllen, indem sie – ausgehend von einer intersubjektiven Perspektive – die Ergebnisse einer empirischen Studie vorstellt, in der Interviews mit 13- bis 19jährigen Mädchen und jungen Frauen sowie ihren Müttern und Vätern bzw. Stiefvätern psychoanalytisch-hermeneutisch interpretiert werden. Im Zentrum stehen die körperbezogenen und sexuellen Phantasien, die durch die Veränderungen in der Adoleszenz – das Wachsen der Brüste, die Veränderungen der Genitalien, die erste Regelblutung, die neue Qualität sexueller Wünsche – ausgelöst werden und die nicht nur bei den Mädchen und jungen Frauen mit Erschütterungen bisheriger psychischer Balancen einhergehen, sondern auch bei den Erwachsenen beträchtliche Verwirrungen hervorrufen: die adoleszenten Wandlungsprozesse bedeuten eine Herausforderung für das gesamte familiale Gefüge.

Body-awareness and sexuality in the adolescence of young women. Dynamics in the father-daughter relationship
Central to psychoanalytic theories on femininity in the 1970s to 1990s was the relationship between mothers and daughters. With the exception of the extreme case of sexual abuse, the sexually erotic content of father-daughter relationships was hardly discussed. The author makes an initial attempt towards filling this gap by taking an intersubjective perspective on the results of an empirical study providing psychoanalytic and hermeneutic interpretation of interviews with 13-to-19-year-old girls and young women and with their mothers and fathers/stepfathers. The focus is on the body-related and sexual fantasies triggered by changes in adolescence (development of the breasts, changes in the genitals, first menstruation, the new quality of sexual desires). These fantasies and the disruptions of existing psychic equilibria that they cause are by no means limited to the girls and young women themselves. The considerable confusion they also provoke in the adults involved indicate that adolescent change processes represent a challenge to the entire family structure.

Corporalité et sexualité dans l'adolescence des jeunes femmes: dynamiques dans le rapport père-fille
Au centre des théories psychanalytiques sur la féminité, développées des années 70 jusqu'aux années 90, se trouvait surtout le rapport mère fille: en dehors du cas extrême d'abus sexuel, le contenu sexuel-érotique du rapport père-fille n'était guère évoqué. L'auteur souhaite commencer à combler cette lacune en présentant – dans une perspective intersubjective – les résultats d'une étude empirique dans laquelle sont interprétés de manière psychanalytico-herméneutique des entretiens avec des jeunes filles et des jeunes femmes de 13 à 19 ans ainsi que des entretiens avec leurs mères et pères ou beaux-pères. Au coeur de l'étude se trouvent les fantasmes se référant au corps et les fantasmes sexuels qui sont provoqués par les transformations au cours de l'adolescence – le développement des seins, les transformations des organes génitaux, les premières règles, la qualité nouvelle des désirs sexuels – et qui engendrent une perturbation de l'équilibre psychique, existant jusque-là, et cela non seulement chez les jeunes filles et les jeunes femmes, mais qui mettent aussi les adultes dans un grand désarroi: les processus de transformation au cours de l'adolescence constituent un défi pour toute la structure familiale.

Die regressive Wiederbelebung der Gleichheit der Sensibilität und körperlichen Ausstattung als Bestandteil der frühen Mutter-Tochter-Beziehung in der psychoanalytischen Behandlung bildet die Basis und den Ausgangspunkt für die Rekonstruktion des frühen Traumas, das die hier vorgestellte Patientin als Dreijährige erlitt, als sie nach einem schweren Unfall einige Wochen im Koma lag. Anhand ihrer konkordanten und komplementären Gegenübertragungsreaktionen zeigt Mechthild Zeul den Prozeß des Verstehens auf: Es wird deutlich, daß für die Aufklärung der traumatisch verursachten Erkrankung das affektive Mitspielen immens wichtig war – auch wenn die Analytikerin nicht immer sofort wußte, welche Rolle ihr in der gemeinsamen unbewußten Inszenierung zugewiesen worden war bzw. welche Rolle sie sich selbst ausgesucht hatte. Erst die nachträgliche Reflexion eröffnete der Analytikerin den Zugang zu ihren Gefühlen, was wiederum den Weg zum unbewußten Erleben der Patientin zeigte.

The plank over the abyss. Female countertransference as a source of insight in the treatment of a severely traumatized woman patient
In psychoanalytic treatment, regressive revitalization of the attunement of sensitivity and of physical similarity as an integral part of the early mother-daughter relationship forms the foundation and starting-point for the reconstruction of the early trauma suffered at the age of three by the patient described in this article, when she remained in a coma for a number of weeks following a severe accident. With reference to her concordant and complementary countertransference responses, Mechthild Zeul indicates the process of understanding involved. One thing that becomes abundantly clear in this case is that affective collusion was of immense significance in casting light on the affective roots of the patient's disorder – even though the analyst was not always immediately clear about the role allotted to her in the joint unconscious enactment (or the role she had chosen for herself). Later reflection was necessary for the analyst to gain access to her own feelings, which in turn indicated the path to the patient's unconscious experience.

La ranimation régressive de la sensibilité et de la corporalité identiques en tant que composant du rapport précoce mère-fille dans la thérapie psychanalytique constitue la base et le point de départ permettant de reconstruire le traumatisme précoce que la patiente présentée a subi à l'âge de trois ans, lorsqu'elle est restée dans le coma pendant plusieurs semaines après un grave accident. A l'aide de ses réactions concordantes et complémentaires lors du contre-transfert, Mechthild Zeul montre le processus de compréhension: on voit clairement que la participation affective à une sorte de jeu de rôle a été très importante pour élucider la maladie provoquée par le traumatisme – même si l'analyste n'a pas toujours su quel rôle on lui avait attribué dans la mise en scène inconsciente commune ou quel rôle elle s'était elle-même attribué. C'est uniquement grâce à la réflexion après-coup que l'analyste a eu accès à ses sentiments, ce qui lui a ensuite indiqué la voie conduisant aux expériences, vécues de manière inconsciente, de la patiente.

In dem in Ausschnitten vorgestellten Briefwechsel der adoleszenten Mathilde Freud mit dem gleichaltrigen Eugen Pachmayr kommt die älteste Tochter Freuds, die bislang nur aus der Perspektive anderer bekannt ist, mit eigener Stimme zu Wort. Göddes Beitrag liefert eine weitere Facette zur Freud-Biographik sowie ein kleines Stück Kulturgeschichte der weiblichen Adoleszenz zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts.

These extracts from the adolescent correspondence between Mathilde Freud and Eugen Pachmayr show Freud's eldest daughter speaking with her own voice rather than being portrayed from the perspective of others. Gödde's article both adds a hitherto little-known facet to Freud's biography and contributes a detail to the cultural history of female adolescence in the early 20th century.

La contribution de Gödde dévoile une autre facette de la biographique de Freud et fournit une petite pièce supplémentaire dans l'histoire culturelle de l'adolescence féminine au début du XXe siècle.
