ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Autor versucht das regressive Erleben vieler Patienten und Analytiker, die zu Beginn der Sitzung in unbewusste Prozesse eintauchen und zum Ende wieder auftauchen, mit dem Konzept der Mikroregression zu erfassen. Im Kontrast zu destruktiven Regressionsprozessen arbeitet er ihre Eigenart als integrative Regression heraus, als Funktionsmodus, der im Dienst des Ichs und der Therapie steht. Dabei verbindet er die Eigenart der formalen Regression und des Träumens aus der Freud’schen Psychoanalyse mit der Haltung des »dreaming« aus der Bion-Tradition. Mikroregressionen drücken sich in Primärprozess-Denken aus, in sinnlichen Bildern, intensiven Emotionen, Inszenierungen und Körpererleben. Sie fördern den Auftrieb des Unbewussten und bewirken folgende Effekte: 1. Der Kontakt zu verdrängten und traumatischen Erinnerungsspuren wird erleichtert. 2. Nonverbale Erfahrungen inszenieren sich im intersubjektiven Feld und regen die emotionale Verarbeitungsfunktion des Analytikers an. 3. Symbolisierungsprozesse werden angestoßen und führen zu Gestaltungen eines analytischen Dritten. Ein klinisches Beispiel dient der Veranschaulichung dieser Vorgänge.

The author coins the term »microregression« to refer to the regressive experience of many patients and analysts immersing themselves in unconscious processes at the beginning of a session and reemerging at the end. Contrasting this with destructive regression processes, he delineates microregression as an integrative variety, a functional mode operating in the service of the ego and of therapy. Here he connects the special function of formal regression and dreaming, as set out in Freud’s writings on psychoanalysis, with the »dreaming« attitude in the tradition of Bion. Microregressions express themselves on the primary-process level, in sensual images, intensive emotions, enactments, and corporeal experience. They encourage the upsurge of the unconscious and bring about the following effects: 1. They facilitate contact with repressed and traumatic memory traces. 2. Non-verbal experiences are enacted in the intersubjective field and stimulate the analyst’s emotional processing function. 3. Symbolization processes are initiated leading to the co-creation of an analytic third. The author draws on a clinical example to illustrate these processes.

Avec le concept de microrégression, l’auteur tente de rendre compte de l’expérience régressive de nombreux patients et analystes, qui entrent dans des processus inconscients au début de la séance et en ressortent à la fin. Par opposition aux processus de régression destructeurs, il élabore sa particularité comme régression intégrative, comme mode de fonctionnement au service du moi et de la thérapie. Ce faisant, il combine la particularité de la régression formelle et du rêve de la psychanalyse freudienne avec l’attitude du « dreaming » de la tradition de Bion. Les microrégressions s’expriment par des processus de pensée primaires, des images sensuelles, des émotions intenses, des mises en scène et des expériences corporelles. Ils favorisent la remontée de l’inconscient et produisent les effets suivants : 1. Le contact avec les traces mémorielles refoulées et traumatiques est facilité. 2. Les expériences non verbales sont mises en scène dans le champ intersubjectif et stimulent la fonction de traitement des émotions de l’analyste. 3. Des processus de symbolisation sont initiés et conduisent à la formation d’un tiers analytique. Un exemple clinique est utilisé pour illustrer ces processus.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Der Regressionsbegriff hat in der Psychoanalyse eine lange, konflikthafte Geschichte und wird in letzter Zeit zunehmend grundsätzlich in Frage gestellt. Der Autor trägt die Kritik an traditionellen Konzepten zusammen, um Anforderungen an ­einen zeitgenössischen Begriff von Regression formulieren zu können. Vorgeschlagen wird eine Unterscheidung zwischen einer Regression, mit der Patienten in die Behandlung kommen, sowie einer, die sich erst in der Therapie entfaltet. Ausgehend von der Vorstellung, dass die Bereitschaft zu Regression dem Menschlichen inhärent ist, kann therapeutische Regression als ein von beiden Seiten getragener intersubjektiver Prozess gesehen werden, der nicht induziert, aber zugelassen werden muss. Therapeutische Regression breitet sich dann als ein Sog aus und bringt den analytischen Prozess in Bewegung. Sie kann Behandlungswiderständen entgegenwirken und erlaubt den Beteiligten, sich dem Prozess zu überlassen. Die Überlegungen werden anhand einer komplizierten Situation in einer analytischen Behandlung illustriert.

In psychoanalysis, the term »regression« has had a long and controversial history. Recently, it has been increasingly called into question. The author reviews the criticisms leveled at the traditional regression concept with a view to pinpointing the requirements that a contemporary view of regression would need to satisfy. An initial proposal is to distinguish the species of regression that patients bring with them from others that only materialize during therapy itself. Assuming that the disposition for regression is inherently human, therapeutic regression can be seen as an intersubjective process maintained by both sides of the dyad, a process that has to be admitted, not induced. Once admitted, therapeutic regression exerts a pull that sets the analytic process in motion. It can counter treatment resistance, and it enables the participants to give themselves over to the analytic process. The author illustrates his ideas with reference to a complicated situation occurring in the course of analytic treatment.

Le concept de régression a une longue histoire conflictuelle dans la psychanalyse et est de plus en plus remis fondamentalement en question. L’auteur regroupe les critiques des concepts traditionnels afin de formuler les exigences d’un concept contemporain de régression. Il propose de distinguer entre une régression avec laquelle les patients arrivent en traitement et une régression qui ne se déploie qu’en thérapie. Fondée sur la notion que la volonté de régression est inhérente à la condition humaine, la régression thérapeutique peut être considérée comme un processus intersubjectif soutenu par deux parties, qui n’est pas induit, mais doit être autorisé. La régression thérapeutique se propage alors comme un tourbillon et met en branle le processus analytique. Elle peut contrer la résistance au traitement et permet aux participants de s’abandonner au processus. Ces considérations sont illustrées par une situation complexe dans un traitement analytique.
